Steps To Kianna: Carter's letter to Kianna

Psalm 136:1-3: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of Lords. His love endures forever. To Him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever.”

Dear Kianna,

I am really exited to see you. The reason I picked this verse for you is because I wanted you to know that God and our family will always love you. I’m exited to push you on the swings, read books to you and teach you about hockey! I hope you like our home!

Our Journey Time Line

November 2009 – I shared my heart with Bryan . . . about opening our home to a little girl. After attending an Orphan Sunday service I asked Bryan to pray about our family possibly adopting.
December 2009 – After a lot of discussions and prayer we leap out in faith and decide to move forward. . . exploring the adoption process and what it entails.
January 2010 – We met with Nikki (Social Worker with Holt International)
March 18, 2010 – We sent our adoption application to Holt
April 9 and 10, 20010 – We attend adoption class in Omaha
July 6, 2010 – We sent Dossier (a lot of paperwork!) to Holt
August 20, 2010 – While camping at Okoboji we received an early surprise phone call from Nikki. She had a referral for us – Gidinesh Denano – a 2-year-old healthy little girl.
August 23, 2010 – We officially accepted our referral. Kianna Denano is going to become part of our family.
September 11, 2010 – We attended our last adoption class in Omaha. While driving to Omaha we received phone call that Mom had emergency surgery and we need to return home to Canada ASAP.
September 15, 2010 – While in the hospital with Mom she shared how thankful she was to have seen a picture Kianna. She wished she could meet her but prayed she will meet Kianna in Heaven one day. Mom told me to “be patient with Kianna” and “just love her.”
November 1, 2010 - We received notification of our court date in Ethiopia (December 9). Now we can make plans to travel!
November 18, 2010 – Kianna’s room is ready for her arrival (Bryan painted and I accessorized – and a “girlie” room we have). Carter moved out of the room and into Mason’s room. Bryan painted (with the boys help). Hockey instead of Butterflies.
November 21, 2010 – Orphan Sunday – we worshiped and celebrated with other families who have adopted.
December 1, 2010 - We received a call from Sheila - we have been blessed to have received a grant fromm Katelyn's Fund!
December 6 – 12, 2010 – We travel to Ethiopia for court date and to meet Kianna.
February 23, 2011 - We leave for Ethiopia to pick up Kianna!
